Summer Tunes: 3 Cruising songs for the week

In my mind, summer is defined by tasty food, exciting relationships and feel-good music. Today, I’m going to focus on the music part and highlight a few songs that you might want a give a few spins while cruising around your respective city.

Jay Rock feat. Kendrick Lamar – “Hood Gone Love it”

The first single from Watts area in Los Angeles rapper Jay Rock features a smooth beat boosted by an Isaac Hayes sample. The song also features a track-stealing verse from fellow West coast rapper Kendrick Lamar who boasts, “From Compton to Baltimore, I’ma kill it, I buy a morgue in a minute.”
The track also benefits from some top-notch production from J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and an old-school video shot on location in L.A.
“You ain’t gotta like it cuz the hood gone love it.”

Wale feat. J. Cole – “Bad Girls Club”

After disappointing album sales and renewed buzz following his signing to Maybach Music Group, D.C. rapper Wale is back with song guaranteed to sound smooth out of your factory speakers. This time, Wale brings J. Cole along for the ride as the two young emcees trade bars over their apparent extreme thirstiness for “bad” girls. Cole’s addictive hook and the blazing drums will help set the perfect mood for cruising.

Pusha T feat. Tyler the Creator – “Trouble On My Mind”

One half of critically acclaimed hip-hop duo “Clipse,” Pusha T comes through with a possible sing for “Fear of God 2: Let us Pray” in “Trouble on my mind.” The bass-booming song features the sometimes controversial rapper Tyler the Creator, leader of California group “Odd Future.” Although Tyler recycles some of his old sayings, Pusha comes through in a big way with his intricate wordplay. Check this tune out and be on the lookout for more music from Pusha & Tyler.
