Tracy Morgan and Soulja Boy…homophobic? I say no.

Another week, another series of controversial remarks made by celebrities. First, Tracy Morgan forgets that it’s the year 2011 and decides to explode on a tasteless rant on homosexuality during a gig in Nashville, TN. Next, Soulja Boy went on a crazed tirade against “stalkers” on his Facebook page. In a statement posted yesterday afternoon, the “Crank Dat” rapper is now saying his account was “hacked.”

Let’s start with Morgan. Known for his antics on “Saturday Night Live” as well as a personal favorite of mine, “30 Rock,” Morgan has increased his popularity by playing dense characters. On this night in the home of country music, Morgan proceeded to embarrass himself with what fans called “a homophobic rant.” Morgan claimed that if his son were gay, he’d better come and talk to him “like a man” or else he would “pull out a knife and stab him.”

Now this isn’t the first time Morgan has made controversial statements. Earlier this year during a Miami Heat-New York Knicks basketball game, Morgan was asked by Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley to choose who was better looking between Sarah Palin (Former running mate of John McCain) and Tina Fey (Morgan’s SNL co-star known for her impression of Palin). Morgan’s response? “Sarah Palin is good masturbation material.”

Tracy Morgan

I will come out and say that I don’t believe Tracy Morgan is homophobic, nor am I defending his rant. It is my belief that homophobia involves an immense dislike for gays, to the point of wanting to deny them the rights of their heterosexual counterparts. I believe that Tracy was simply telling a distasteful joke as most comedians do. A very distasteful joke that should not have been told. Morgan has to understand that we are living in the world in 2011. Jokes about homosexuals that come off as “hate-filled” are not accepted. 15 years ago, a comedian could have gotten away with using the word “faggot.” This day in age, that term would not fly as it now offends even heterosexual people such as myself. Just to let you know how far we have come, Morgan’s rant was boo’ed and even caused some of the audience to leave in Tennessee. This is the same state that birthed the first incarnation of the Ku Klux Klan in Pulaski, Tennessee. Although free speech is a right that we have all earned as Americans, Morgan should learn in his future performances to filter his act when it pertains to subjects that may offend mass portions of the audience.

It will take the world some time but Tracy Morgan will eventually be forgiven by most and will not lose his job with NBC. It has been said Morgan has truly been upset over how he is now being looked at in the media. This incident will bring forth a new Tracy Morgan, you heard it here first. Morgan’s next performance will be July 2nd at Foxwood’s MGM Grand Theater in Connecticut. This show will let the world know if Morgan can find a nice medium between raunchy and boring.

On to Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em. Controversy seems to follow this guy around. Soulja was accused of being a racist, homophobe after ranting against users posting on the rapper’s facebook page.

“I’m gonna keep talking sh*t to these white f*ggots until they unlike my page. f**king weirdo stalkers!”
“how can you say “i hate you” blah blah blah. when you are on my page that doesnt make any sense! it sounds crazy you are stalking a person who you dont like WTF kinda sh*t is that. no life having bi*ches”

Soulja Boy a.k.a. Deandre Way

Those are some of the statements found on Soulja’s facebook page. The rapper is now saying that his page was “hacked” and there is no way to find out if this is true or not. I’m not sure if I believe that but what I also don’t believe is that Soulja Boy is racist or homophobic. He used language you definitely shouldn’t use. He probably shouldn’t wear his emotions on his sleeve and explode on his fans. But the guy doesn’t strike me as the hateful type.

Furthermore, I agree with his overall point of ranting. I’ve never understood why someone will take time out of their day to say hateful things to a person they do not know. We sometimes forget that famous people are still people at the end of the day. They have emotions just as we do and the things people say could possibly hurt them. Soulja needs to gain the strength to ignore these people who would love nothing more than to see him crack. It is those people who can ignore the haters that become truly successful for long periods of time.

If threatening to kill a child because he is gay isn’t homophobic, then what is? I’m so fucking sick of straight people trying to excuse themselves every time they slip up and show their true colors. Tracy Morgan is a homophobic asshole and worse than that, he’s a child abuser.

I just look at it as comedy. Crude comedy, but comedy nonetheless. He should watch his words but I don’t think that deep down inside he’s homophobic nor has he been found guilty of child abuse.
